The practical library · Bread care

Good bread should not end badly.

Storage advice is often treated like folklore. The useful answer depends on the loaf, the room, and how quickly you plan to eat it.

Better ingredients, better bread, and a better table
01

01 · Today and tomorrow

Protect the cut face.

For a crusty loaf you will finish quickly, place the cut side down on a clean board or wrap thoughtfully so the interior stays protected without trapping too much moisture around the crust.

02

02 · Several days

Control the exchange.

A bread bag balances protection and breathability. Softer sandwich loaves generally benefit from a more closed environment than rustic loaves. Keep bread away from heat and direct sunlight.

03

03 · Later

Freeze the future slice.

Slice before freezing when convenience matters. Separate portions, seal well, and freeze while the bread is still fresh. Toast from frozen or allow it to thaw while covered.
